Yesterday, April 2nd, people from all around the world celebrated the Rueda De Casino by participating in the International Rueda Flash Mob at 4:00PM (their local time). This is an annual event where thousands of dancers dance in various cities across Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe, Australia.
Rueda De Casino:
“Rueda de Casino was developed in Havana, Cuba in the late 1950s and early 1960s.…… Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by one person, a caller (or ‘líder’ or ‘cantante’ in Spanish). Many moves have hand signs to complement the calls; these are useful in noisy venues, where spoken calls might not be easily heard. Most moves involve the swapping of partners, where the partners move around the circle to the next partner. The combination of elaborate dance combinations and constant movement of partners create a visually spectacular effect.” Source
My Top 3 Video Picks Below I have included some videos from yesterday’s international event, including my favorite flashmob from this year’s International Rueda Flashmob. It is worth noting that there were thousands upon thousands of people participating in yesterday’s flashmob and this recap is only based on the videos that I came across.
1. DC Casineros Dance Company celebrates International Rueda de Casino Multi Flash Mob day at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
This is my most favorite out of the videos I’ve seen this year. This in my opinion was more than a flash mob. It was a well choreographed demo of salsa suelta, rueda de casino, some elements of Afro -Cuban & reggaeton. Their flashmob reminded me of something I would see in the streets of Cuba. DC Casineros really outdid themselves! Kudos!!!!
2 . International Rueda de Casino multi flashmob 2016 – Ljubljana (Slovenia)
This group made the list because of the enormous rueda they had going.
2. Dance With Style’s Crew: performing FLASHMOB in Central, Hong Kong as part of the global Rueda de Casino Multi Flashmob yesterday
I like this flashmob because of the impromptu aspect of it. They came out of nowhere and just started dancing. This definitely keeps up with the spirit of what a flashmob is all about.
